Chevrolet Silverado Black Ops

The world is a pretty scary place right now. We’re faced with extreme weather events and our government is shut down. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a vehicle that could help you survive what feels like the end times? Chevrolet has the truck for you. Named the Silverado Black Ops, Chevrolet says, “The sinister-looking concept is based on the Silverado Crew Cab 4×4, building on its strength, performance and safety with features designed to turn the wasteland into an oasis, including custom-fabricated lower body armor and a lockable, bed-mounted Truck Vault storage unit.”

Apocalypse-ready features on the Silverado Black Ops include two gas masks, a solar power pack, a folding shovel, rope, gloves and a military first aid kit. Chevrolet says the Silverado Black Ops is designed to accommodate survival essentials like a generator, water, food and fuel.

Chevrolet Design Manager Dave Ross says in a statement the Silverado Black Ops is a “survival kit on four wheels.”

Chevrolet adds, “A powerful, front-mounted winch can help the Silverado Black Ops in most any catastrophe-induced predicament, while a custom cover around the winch has a bright, light-emitting diode, or LED, spot light and integrated tow hooks. The truck also has a raised suspension that provides extra ground clearance.” That additional ground clearance could come in handy if you need to run over zombies as you escape your neighborhood.

USA Today says, “With the survivalist craze sweeping reality TV, this truck is yet another attempt at showing what a rugged vehicle in a post-meltdown world might look like.”

The Silverado Black Ops will be shown at the SEMA automotive specialty products show in Las Vegas in early November. Chevrolet will also display the Silverado Z71 Volunteer Firefighter concept at the show. Edmunds writes, “These imaginative versions of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado are set to steal the spotlight at the 2013 SEMA Show.”

Doomsday preppers may also want to check out off-road-ready trucks like the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor and Nissan Frontier PRO-4X. If Chevrolet built the Silverado Black Ops truck, would you consider buying it?
